For Her
Opt for simple clothing and as most poses are from the waist up, concentrate on what you wear on your top half. White and pastels work well and dark clothing tends to minimise body size. It often helps to visualise a look or style you want to achieve and then choose your wardrobe selection to suit. Again, if you are planning on any group shots then try to create a link between everyones dress.
Be sparing with jewellery. When it comes to portraits, less is definitely more.
Opt for simple clothing unless you're trying to make a statement.
Make sure your hair looks its best.
Make up tips
While cosmetics are something that many women can't live without, these tips and advice are for those who want accent their finest features and look their best.
Your foundation should match your face and neck, so don't try it on your hand or arm for colour a match. But don't forget to apply foundation on your eyelids, lips and into your neck for a more natural look. This also is a good setting for eye shadow and lipstick and helps it stay on longer especially under the heat of the studio lighting. Sweeping loose translucent powder with a large powder puff can also keep your freshly applied make up from running in hot and humid conditions. Overly plucked eyebrows look unnatural and make your eyes appear smaller.
Powder eye shadow stays on the longest.
Matte eye shadow looks better than frost if you're tired. Frost shadow draws attention to wrinkles.
Extend your eye shadow above the lid (crease) and use a light shadow or highlighter right beneath your brow to open up your eyes and make them appear larger.
Use a lip liner that matches your lipstick.
Try bronzing powder underneath your cheeks and jawbone to make your face appear slimmer.
To make your nose appear smaller, apply bronzing powder carefully down the sides. Add a little shimmer creme or powder down the bridge of your nose.
When it comes to colour, take direction from you hair, rather than from your eyes or your clothes. Your skin thins out as you get older, and you start to notice that the area under your eyes looks darker. The solution is finding the right concealer to both lighten and cover up dark circles. The same concealer you use for dark circles can also be used to help hide age spots. Use a concealer brush to apply just a touch of concealer to the spot you want to hide, and pat it on to blend. Add more if needed, and then put your foundation on over that. Your make up doesn’t need to be heavy but a good foundation is always flattering. What looks good in the mirror works well in a portrait. We can touch up any blemishes too!
The best way to achieve thick lashes is to do several thin coats of mascara. If you experience clumping, wipe the excess mascara from your brush with a tissue or place your mascara tube in warm water for a few minutes (tightly closed, leave to cool down and away you go again).
